Learn Alekhine’s Gun in Chess

Blog

In chess, Alekhine’s Gun is a powerful piece formation where a player places their two rooks doubled on a single file with the queen positioned directly behind them at the rear.Let’s learn about it.

Alekhine's Gun is a special type of battery. Now what is a battery in Chess ? It's a tactical formation where two or more sliding pieces (a queen, rook, or bishop) line up on the same file, rank, or diagonal to combine their attacking power on a target.
Rook Battery: Two rooks (or a rook and a queen) double up on an open file or rank to control the line. Please see the below diagram to undestand this.

Bishop and Queen Battery: A bishop and queen line up on a long diagonal, often aiming at weak spots like the opponent's f7 or f2 / h7 or h2 squares near the castled king.

Alekhine's Gun is a famous chess configuration and a specialized triple battery. It is formed by placing both rooks on a single file or rank with the queen positioned directly behind them..

Why Use a Battery·

Maximized Pressure: They double or triple the force aimed at a single square, pawn, or defending piece.·
Hidden Threats (Discovered Attacks): The piece in front can move away, leaving the back piece to suddenly attack an enemy piece or deliver a check.·
Breaking Defences: They force the opponent into passive or defensive positions because one defender cannot easily block multiple lines of attack
